Free online learning of SEO is in hot demand this year, so we’re adding to our online courses, today. Here is your recently updated 100% Free SEO Course.

What is SEO? The full meaning is ‘search engine optimization,’ which is all the actions you take to get a high rank for your Web page or site in a search engine, such as Google, YouTube, Baidu, Duck Duck Go, Bing, etc. Literally: ‘making optimal’ for a search ranking purpose.

This totally Free SEO Course will make it very clear about the two main components of search engine optimization:

  1. On-page factors of SEO — e.g. keyword density
  2. Off-page factors of SEO — e.g. inbound linking strategy

Free SEO Course: On-page

On-page factors of SEO

These considerations of your page optimizing will include website structure for easy following or parsing by googlebot and the other search engine ‘spiders’ or bots, and:

  1. Word count: High ranking web pages often have 1,200 words or even 5,000 words, but there is no fixed optimal number of words required. It’s more a question of providing the searcher with plenty of relevant, ‘sticky’ content that the reader will spend a lot of time consuming, and enjoying. The goal is to entertain the reader and meet the needs of people, providing a great user experience. (UX).
  2. Page download speed: the faster the page can be accessed, the better! Optimized images and simple code help a lot. Not too much JavaScript.
  3. Consistent, clear topic/subject of the web page. The primary focus key phrase needs to appear at the beginning of the Title tag, somewhere in the meta description tag, in a large Header 1 tag, in the first paragraph of body text, and perhaps sprinkled two or three times more in the body text. Having the focus words in the domain name and the file name (URL) can be helpful, but DON’T over-do it. Image ‘Alt’ attribute (alternative text for the vision impaired) should include the focus key phrase, too. You can write a lot in the Alt attribute to explain clearly what is the intention of the image itself, as an infographic, for example. The picture on this page is exactly what I mean.
  4. Keyword density: perhaps an outdated measure, but I prefer an 0.8% to 1.5% appearance of the primary focus keyword as a percentage of the overall, total word count. That means a keyword would appear once in about every one hundred words. 1%. Leave a comment below if you disagree.
  5. Use images and embedded videos on your page, with plenty of sub-heads, a caption and text to clearly introduce them and describe what they are about. Use image captions for extra trigger words to get a click-through. Your images need to include your primary, focused key phrase in their ‘ALT’ or alternative text, that is provided in the html code for vision-impaired persons. Their computers can read out the ‘alternative text’ to them. Make sure your keyword is in there.
  6. Use bold and italicized keywords/phrases where it helps to emphasize the meaning and attract a reader’s attention–but not excessively!
  7. Place two or three deep, internal links from other keywords that will lead a reader deeper into your site, for topics/subjects that she is highly likely to be interested in. Related keywords can be found at the bottom of Google search results pages, and are excellent for generating ideas for you to create more, related web pages. The best examples of this ‘deep linking’ can be found at Wikipedia. Notice all the clickable ‘blue links?’ This method of SEO is widely overlooked and presents a great opportunity for you to boost your link power or ‘juice.’ Place those internal links freely. (Up to 300.) It works for Wikipedia!

Off-page factors of SEO

Your job is to naturally attract inbound or incoming links from other Web sites with high authority and a good reputation. Don’t do reciprocal linking (2-way linking) and don’t accept junk links or blog ping-backs. You can write high quality articles for sites like Entrepreneur.com, Inc.com, Techcrunch.com, Wired.com and HuffingtonPost.com and place a link back to your relevant web page.

PR or press release sites like PRweb.com and specialist medical sites like WebMD.com and the online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia.com are all excellent sources of acceptable inbound links with good authority and reputation.

Blog comments is another area where you can work. Be careful that the blog is reputable and approved by Google. You can install the Moz.com’s MozBar on your Chrome browser to get instant measurement of the reputation and authority of almost any blog or website. It is well worth installing the MozBar. Use their online tools for: 1. keyword research, of supply and demand factors, and: 2. keeping track of your Google, Baidu, Yahoo and Bing rankings and of your closest competitors’ search rankings. Tiny adjustments of your anchor text from inbound links may result in some dramatic changes in rank order! Use 80% / 20% proportions to avoid a ‘jacked-up’ or false or manipulated appearance to incoming links. A.I. is employed at Google to impose harsh penalties on non-compliant web sites that might not maintain a consistent ‘white-hat policy.’ Do the right thing.

Read web sites like SearchEngineWatch.com and SEMrush.com and Moz com to keep up your knowledge of important changes to Google’s SERP ranking algorithm. Another entertaining SEO site is Eric Enge’s Stone Temple Consulting. (Recently acquired by Perficient). $9 million per year revenue. Watch for their new videos, by Eric Enge and Mark Traphagen, for some free SEO training that entertains and sticks in your mind.

In summary, don’t do click-bait. Write such high quality posts that you are creating LINK-BAIT. (This idea is after following Rand Fishkin, former CEO and founder of Moz.com).

Trending Ideas, Topics and Events

Google follows all fashions, trending keywords, and especially hot news events, both locally and internationally. As a business owner, you need to..
“identify trending topics related to your industry. Tools such as Social Animal (or the more affordable Scoop.it) let you search for current, popular content based on your business keywords.” Source: bsquared.media ; and, ”
Write keyword-optimized and high-quality blogs that address these (new, trending) search queries, and you’re set to go.” ~ B Squared.media

Google Trends is a great service and the place to start your keyword research. A keyword score between 50 and 100 is recommended. A good SEO practice is to keep watching the changes. Try to predict an upward moving curve with momentum. Do it at least weekly.

That concludes our one-of-a-kind, 100% Free SEO Course. I hope that this training will be of benefit to your SME enterprise or home based Internet business.

  1. I totally enjoyed writing this free course on SEO or search engine optimization for Google and YouTube, knowing full well, that this information is very powerful and can even lead to hundreds of people making a heck of a lot of money—after getting 1st page rankings in Google. As stated in the free PDF document, get it right on YouTube and big Google will automatically draw the top 3 YT videos over to show in the ‘3-pack’ of videos, as the very top organic search positions. Video beats text at the moment, in natural (organic) search results, under the top Google ads.

Google predicted that smartphones, for increased mobility, and videos, for ease of learning and high ‘engagement,’ would reign supreme! They were so right. From 63% to 70% of searches are now done on mobile smartphones. YouTube has grown to become the second most popular global search engine. Searchers go to YT to solve problems, and to be informed of politics and get entertained. Music, etc.
